It was announced that Bioware has made it’s MMO FTP.
Is this a surprise? I really don’t think so… It is amazing that this series was beaten buy the bigger names in the MMO world.
“The reality of the marketplace today … is that the subscription model is a barrier for consumers,” Bromberg of Bioware said. Do you think this is going to be the model for all future MMO’s?
Look at LOTRO, GW2, Rusty Hearts, and others that are Free To Play. These games have to count on micro-transactions within the game to keep up profits, but how many people are going to really pay for something that may or may not be needed. What kind of rewards do you get for these micro-transactions…
The only thing Bioware forgot to mention is what’s going to happen to the current subscribers. Don’t you think that’s a little odd?
I have an account on there and I still have to pay a subscription fee? doesn’t make any sense…
How about big name games like WoW? They don’t have to use this system. WoW has such a strong client base that they could make the subscription fee higher! Eventually though WoW may be forced to take this route since almost every other great MMO out there is.
