The Future is Black.
2025, China has risen to providence and are at war with The United States of America. They are fighting over rare earth metals which have become one of the most sought after resources in the future due to the advancements in technologies. China have brought the fight to Americas home soil with one location shown being Los Angeles. This opens the door for cyber terrorists to attack America from the inside taking control of their most powerful asset, their unmanned drone network. This is the picture Treyarch along with Batman Begins writer David Goyer have set for their new entry into the Call of Duty universe Black Ops 2. The storyline won’t all happen in the future though. Some parts of the campaign are to be set back in the 70′s and 80′s with some familiar faces making a return. The protagonist from the first Black Ops Alex Mason will make a return for definite in the 70′s and 80′s sections and while Frank Wood’s will narrate the story in the 2025 sections. Of course with a new story comes new characters which include the main bad guy Raul Menendez. Menendez will be the leader of the terrorist group causing friction between The USA and China throughout the game. Alex Mason’s son David Mason is also a new character that is confirmed for Black Ops 2.
In order to diversify the campaign experience Treyarch is introducing “Strike Force” missions. In these missions you will be given control of a black ops group choosing from a number of levels based on the threat each presents in the current cold war. Your not guaranteed success in these missions and if all your operatives bite the bucket you fail the level and this will change the course of the conflict. You will also be given a choice of different battlefields to try meaning ou and a friend may not experience the same ones adding replay value to the campaign. It also sounds pretty awesome how these missions play out meaning they hopefully won’t just be annoying distractions between main story levels. Each mission plays out as a small sandbox battlefield. You choose the order you complete your objectives and how the whole mission pans out. You will have the ability to zoom out at any stage and switch between your units and take control of the ones you feel is right for each scenario that plays out. Your units will include regular foot soldiers along with walking robots and UAV’s.
Now to the gadgets, guns and gizmos. There are quite a few new high-tech futuristic vehicles and guns you will be getting to grips with in this game from giant walking robots to electrified stun knifes. Here is a list of weapons and vehicles confirmed for Black Ops 2.
- Wrist mounted launchers that fire small explosives “Quad Drones”
- A new sniper rifle that uses millimeter wave technology, the same tech that airport security scanners use to see through walls. The same rifle also uses charged shots to sling ammo at high velocity, giving you the option to shoot through different density walls depending on how long you prime the shot.
- CLAW-collossal land drone
- VTOL aircraft
- Mech with legs
- Unmanned Drones
- Kard Pistol
- The old faithful M-16 Assault Rifle
- The XM8
- M249 SAW LMG
- A scope with x-ray vision for those annoying campers.
There will surely be more futuristic gadgets and vehicles revealed before the games launch but we can only speculate what they might be at this moment. Now time for the one part of the game most of us out there will be buying it for. The online multiplayer.
Multiplayer will take place in 2035 not the past meaning all the futuristic weaponry and killstreaks will be present. The combat training system has been revamped for new players so they can better themselves before jumping straight into the online gameplay. A great option if you want to learn maps and perfect your class setup to protect your precious Kdr’s. Treyarch have said their main goal with multiplayer is to make it fun and exciting to watch with plans to break into the world of EA sports, Activision’s Call of Duty social network and Call of Duty Elite. The create a class system has also been given a tune up. This time each perk, weapon and equipment will have their own amount of points. You will be given ten points to set up your clas whatever way you wish. This means you could be able to set up a class with up to five perks and only a knife as your weapon as long as all the points don’t exceed ten. This will give you real freedom to play the way you want online in your own style. Take a look at the trailer below to see just how good Black Ops 2 multiplayer is looking.
Of course the ever popular Zombie mode will be making a return and like everything else comes with improvements. Extract taken from earlier article “Everything We Know About Black Ops 2 Zombie Mode”
“If you have never played Zombie Mode in Black Ops the basic concept is you are thrown into a level with up to three other players and you try to survive as long as you can against the flesh-eating monsters. This year Treyarch are adding multiple new upgrades to their zombie game mode. I have to admit there are some very exciting additions. The big one is a competitive zombie mode where two teams of four people try to survive longer than each other against the zombies. Now it’s not clear yet whether or not you will be able to hurt the other team as you play but I certainly hope you can. This is one of two competitive modes Treyarch’s Daniel Suarez talked about in a recent interview with BebopVox TV at E3. He also mentioned a Zombie Wager match mode where players will be tasked with certain objectives during the game. For example you could be tasked with killing a certain amount of zombies in a limited amount of time. These additions are sure to create great competition in the Zombie Mode community and only add to a game we are all hoping won’t disappoint. There is also mention of 8 player co-op which can only mean bigger maps and more zombies hoardes for us to test our zombie survival skills against.”
Black Ops 2 is due for release worldwide on the 13th November on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. We can only hope the game lives up to the hype but what we have been shown so far we have nothing to worry about.
