Lets not get bogged down discussing some of the “bad” scores this game has gotten out there. Lets forget about the Resident Evil games of the past and look at this game for what it is. Resident Evil 6 is a completely different breed of game from the “classic Resident Evil” and lets face it if Capcom had tried to bring out a game with tank controls and didn’t try something new we would complain about that too. Instead Capcom have tried to make a Resident Evil that fits in with todays audience and although they did fail in some ways they have achieved a very entertaining game with a lot of content on offer and some nice online co-op play. Lets look at Resident Evil 6 (RE6 from here-on) for what it is and forget about the past games for a while.

First off RE6 looks fantastic. The character models look great and the scenery is very pleasing on the eyes.  The zombies look awesome and some of the bigger enemies are very well designed and you can see a lot of work has gone into making this game look great. The Nemesis style enemy you encounter in one of the story lines is a nice touch. The stories all intertwine really well for the seperate campaigns and RE6 tells its story really well with good voice acting and a great plot. We definitely can’t fault Capcom on how the game looks or the story unfolds but how does it play.

This maybe where Capcom have made a few mistakes with this game. Some people may find the game too action orientated with plenty of quick time sequences thrown in where you need to mash buttons or hit them in a specific order in order to progress. Saying this though overall gameplay is very entertaining and you will genuinely have some edge of the seat moments with some parts of the game. Each of the different players have their own feel to their individual campaigns. For example Jake and Sherrys campaign brings back memories or RE 3 Nemesis as they are constantly chased and harassed by the Ustanak while Ada’s campaign feels more like the puzzle solving games of old.

The one big problem with these intertwining story lines is perhaps they can get a tiny bit repetitive when you are forced to repeat some sequences from the other campaigns. The task can become quite monotonous and sometimes annoying. While these different stories are possibly the best part of the game watching them unfold as you play they are also the biggest problem with the game. If you can overlook this though you will have a very entertaining and worthwhile experience with a lot of memorable moments.

There is a lot of content on offer here in single player alone, maybe too much, but take the game online and there is even more to enjoy. You can play the game co-op or take on one of two other game modes, Mercenaries or Agent Hunt. Agent Hunt is a new game mode where you and a friend can enter another players game and essentially hunt them down. This mode is quite entertaining. Mercenaries makes a return with plenty of maps for you and friends to get to grips with.

So while RE6 may not have been the perfect game we were all waiting for Capcom have done a decent job. Re6 has lots to offer with great story telling, excellent graphics, entertaining game play and a lot of content on offer.  RE6 may not deserve a ten out of ten or even a nine but it certainly doesn’t deserve the sixes and sevens some critics are giving it. RE6 gets a thumbs up from Gamers@Play unless you’re a die-hard fan that wants a RE1 -RE3 style game. Resident Evil 6 is available now on PS3. XBox 360 and PC.
