Ratchet & Clank Q-Force is the new addition in the series from Insomniac games. This is however quite a different style game from what fans of the series are quite used too. The game is like a tower defence game were you must protect a designated base while also trying to capture other bases situated around each of the levels. There are a total of 5 levels in the game & the focus is based more on the multiplayer aspect of the series. This works really well as the game is fun to play with exploring each of the environments & obtaining the vast amount of destructive weapons to blow your enemies out of the sky.  Although this a fun game to play as it still manages to retain alot of the familiar style humour that fans of the series have become accustomed to over the years…

The objective of the game is all other planets in the galaxy have been taken over by a new enemy that is hell-bent on destruction & it is up to Captain Qwark to lead the Q-Force team along with Ratchet & Clank to try to stop this new menace, this is where you begin. You start each level with a base to defend. You have 6 generators that must remain online, if all generators are destroyed it will be game over. You don’t start with any weapons on the levels but will need to collect bolts to be able to purchase them from different sections throughout each of the levels.  You can also use the bolts to buy defence weapons such as mines & automated gun turrets to help you defend your base from attack…

Each game is broken down into 3 different play segments. first you have to try & take over enemy bases by destroying their generators then for the second section you are then given the opportunity to return to you base & purchase defense weapons that can be used to destroy enemies that are attacking you, then on the final segment of the game you must defend your base from attacking enemies… Power-ups & health boosts can be found situated around each of the levels within the game, these can also help determine the difference between success or failure when playing…

The multiplayer side of the game adds a little more play-ability & variation to the experience as playing against human players make for a more difficult & unpredictable game, as you have the choice to go & attack other enemy bases or stay back & defend your own…

Ratchet & Clank Q-Force is a  unique experience as it tries to combine a lot of various gaming genres together all in one package while also retaining the traditional witty humour that fans of the series have become accustomed too. Although the game is quite short on the game play side it is worth trying if you’re looking for something slightly different from your usual tower defence mash-ups….!
